The Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization chartered by the New York State Department of Education. Governance of the Society is by a 19-member Board of Trustees and the day-to-day operations are managed by the Society/Museum staff.

The Society and its programs are supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York Council for the Humanities, the City of Watertown, and Jefferson County, New York. Please tell your state and local legislators that you value their support of culture and the arts.

Since its founding in 1886, the lifeblood of the Society has been its members, volunteers, and visitors. Your membership fees, admission fees, gifts, trust funds, grants, and volunteer hours ensures that the Society will continue to fulfill its mission of preserving the past for future generations.

Society / Museum Staff
Director William G. Wood BS (Herbert H. Lehman College ‘77)
  Joined the Society staff as Director in July 2009. Bill brings with him over 25 years experience in corporate and retail business including executive roles in Customer Service and Sales. He also has over 10 years Not-for-Profit leadership involvement with the Boy Scouts, Education Foundation, and the American Heart Association, as well as being a small business owner until 2008.
Office Manager   Lisa C. Earp (Bryant & Stratton Business School '82)
  Lisa joined the society staff in January 2011 as Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant. Lisa comes to us with over 20 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience. She also has several years of experience in customer service and management rolls. Originally from western New York and after spending 25 years in the south, Lisa has adopted to our Northern NY weather fairly well.
Curator of Education   Melissa Widrick BA (Oswego '86)
  She is a Teaching Assistant with Jefferson-Lewis BOCES assigned to the Society as Curator of Education.  She has been in this position since 1986, managing our "Museum to Schools" and other education programs.
Collections Manager Lenka P. Walldroff BA (Dickinson '03)
  Lenka P. Walldroff is the Curator of Collections for the Jefferson County Historical Society. She worked formerly as a Museum Specialist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and has a background in Art History and Art Conservation.
Caretaker / Gardner David T. Coleman  
  Joined the Society staff as a part time custodian in October 2006. Since then he has taken on the role of Caretaker/Gardener full time. David’s 25 + years in Food & Beverage often facilitates the many diverse events planned and held at the Society’s campus.
