The facilities are available for public use on a contract basis, when available. Some restrictions apply. Call early for reservations, dates fill quickly.
Archaeological Survey
JCHS staff are qualified under 36CFR61 to perform Stage 1 and Stage 2 archaeological survey and testing throughout Jefferson County. 30 days turnaround for most projects. We have 25 years of experience, and all work is guaranteed accurate and complete. Send requests for proposals to the attention of Timothy Abel, PhD, in care of JCHS.
Archival Research
JCHS staff and volunteers perform archival research in our own collections, as well as those of neighboring institutions (County Clerk's Office, City Clerk's Office, JCC Dewey Library, Flower Memorial Library, Watertown Daily Times). This is a contractual service that must be prepaid. The hourly rate is $25 plus copy costs at $0.20/page. Please remember it is a service, and not guaranteed to produce an expected result. Before you ask for this service, please consult the Jefferson County GenWeb page for information on when vital records began in New York. We will make every effort to find the information, but if it doesn't exist, its not our liability.
